Thoughts of the Week #5: I Choose Me

Week 5: October 26 to November 1, 2024

Choose?

Whom I choose?!

That’s not a difficult question to answer.

If you had asked me before, I might have hesitated.

But now, the answer is clear as water.

Isn’t it obvious?

I choose me.

I choose me because I’m a diamond in the rough,

A beauty that can’t be seen with the naked eye,

Discarded by many for its unpolished exterior.

One step at a time, I’m learning to love me—

All of me, the pleasant and unpleasant parts.

Me, who has experienced the darkest of darkness, holding onto the slightest chance of hope of ever seeing a little crack of light.

She who isn’t afraid to accept both hardships and blessings.

That is who I choose… Me!

The funny thing about life is that we often wait a lifetime to be chosen by someone, when in fact, we are the ones who should choose ourselves. It might sound easy, but it is not. The process is a hard one—not physically, but mentally. Mentally, in the sense of having to relearn the meaning of loving ourselves entirely, while accepting our imperfections and insecurities. Not easy!

You should choose yourself because you’ve made it this far. It hasn’t been easy, but you’re doing it. Choose yourself because you have so much to offer and should be appreciated for the gem that you are.

You don’t need to change yourself to be chosen by someone who might take you for granted in the end. To avoid disappointment, be at peace with people not picking you. The only person who should be choosing you is yourself, and nobody else. Remember that!
