Steps to Healing the Inner Child by Becoming a Role Model to Your Younger Self
Commonly, we are our own worst critics, possessing the inability to recognize that being who we are is just enough. Trying our best is also sufficient! One way to undo years of limiting beliefs is by becoming a role model to your younger self.
We don’t always have to be in the mindset of constantly proving ourselves to anyone in order to feel deserving—deserving of being worthy. The only person we ought to feel worth for is ourselves.

Feeling worthy is a complex subject. The concept is often viewed differently among individuals. The value of a person shouldn’t solely depend on their financial or social status, ability to undertake specific tasks, upbringing, disability, education, nationality, and the list is endless. As individuals, we frequently let these factors shape our sense of personal value. Certain thoughts associated with how we perceive ourselves regularly lead us into the realm of ‘If I were a certain way or did not have this, I would be better.’ But better for whom?
Recognizing the Incredible Person Within Us
It is time to recognize the incredible person that each of us is and learn to value ourselves as intrinsic gems.
Because we are exceptional, one-of-a-kind gems fortunate enough to walk this earth. Your disability, education, ethnic background, and skin color all pale in comparison to the precious person that you are.
Who cares if you have a disability or an imperfection? Let me break it to you: we all have imperfections, whether we want to admit it or not. In regard to disability, we all have some type of limitation, whether visible or invisible, that limits us from completing certain tasks. The beauty in that is we have the knowledge to accomplish the things we want to achieve by modifying the ways we do things. And that, to me, is beautiful!
Imperfections Make Us Who We Are
Often, we waste a great amount of effort trying to become something we are not. As a result, we slowly abandon the unique characteristics that distinguish us from the rest.
The fact is that we are all special in our own way, with our imperfections and all. Our imperfections are what separate us from the bunch. Our shortcomings make us who we are as individuals, and without them, we would not be ourselves.
Self-worth can be attained by recognizing that you are enough just the way you are, without having to amplify the need to seek acceptance externally or alter your personality. The greatest gift we can give ourselves is finding happiness in our individualism.
The Journey to Self-Worth
Feeling deserving does not occur overnight. On the contrary, it highly demands patience and acceptance. Acceptance, in the sense of allowing yourself to comprehend that you are very deserving of all the wonderful things that life has to offer, despite believing otherwise. To achieve this state of mind, one must renovate their way of thinking by making amends with the past and reevaluating everything they once thought to be negative.
Acting as a Role Model To Your Younger Self
One way to begin is by acting as a role model to your past self, reminding them of the incredible person they are. Meanwhile, expressing an immense sense of pride for their admirable strength in overcoming life’s many hardships.
Picture yourself playing the role of an older sister or brother, or an older version of yourself. As your job would be to encourage them to be persistence when faced with adversity, as triumph awaits in the end. In fact, you would be offering the guidance and support you wished someone had given you when you were younger.
Subconsciously, for whatever reason, there is a part of ourselves that needs healing from feelings of unworthiness. Our inability to recognize our worth may have originated from the strong desire to please others. It can lead us to want to alter our true selves in order to be perceived in a positive light. By offering support to your younger self, you would be guiding them through the misfortunes endured and providing the hope that everything will work out.
Healing Our Inner Child And Feeling Worthy
The article ‘Why Is Everyone Working on Their Inner Child?’ by Angela Haupt explains how we can go about repairing the mishaps experienced through childhood. The crucial step of initially acknowledging your inner child, followed by endorsing its point of view, as advised by Fruehauf. As one begins to comprehend its purpose and needs, you can focus your attention on nurturing a sense of security and reassurance (Haupt).
There are meditations geared towards assisting you in healing the part of yourself that needs healing. With patience, you will realize what an extraordinary person you are, and the qualities you once disliked about yourself, you are going to appreciate. Those unique qualities are what make you, you- worth it and deserving.
If anyone has an issue with that, oh well. That’s their problem, not yours. Because you were put on this earth for something, and that alone makes you worthy of obtaining the best. Make sure to ingrain into your brain that you deserve the best, and you are so worth it.

I’m glad you were able to resonate with the post. Insecurities are kind of inevitable growing up, but I strongly belief that our job as adults is to have the strength to look back and recognized that you did the best you could to deal with the card that life handled you. I’m proud of you! Thank you for your comment!
Being a role model to your younger self is a really cool idea! I think it will encourage and motivate me more. I have problems with self-worth but now I understand I m doing good job last year. Thank you for your post!

It is the best thing you can do for yourself as you will discover parts of yourself that were once unknown to you. Also, you will realize the incredible person you are and your self-worthiness. LMK how it goes. Thank you for your comment! 🙂
This is such a healing way to approach growth and well-being. I love the idea of being a role model to my younger self, as it opens us up to seeing the progress we have made (and to be kind to ourselves as we assess and reflect on things). Great post!
