Week 7: January 10 to January 17, 2025
What is happening with all this craze about being skinny? When did the “skinny” trend of the 90s and early 2000s come back in style? It is something I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around.
I’m all for body positivity and loving the body God has given you, as long as you are happy and healthy. But the thing that is concerning is the growing amount of individuals who are claiming to have had lost the weight through exercising and dieting. Clearly, the evidence tell otherwise. My respect goes to those who are not taking the easy way and are a hundred percent committed to bettering their health by adopting an exercise regimen or through proper dieting. It is an admirable effort as that takes hard work and dedication.

The worrisome part is when these astonishing results are achieved through the use of medication. Yet, the regular use of such medication is heavily denied.
There is nothing wrong with turning to medication to assist with weight loss after trying everything else. Mainly, if it is done to improve your overall health. Medications are here to be use for its intended purpose and for anyone who ACTUALLY need it. Notice the emphasis on the word actually!
Many might judge me for writing this post since I have never had an issue with carrying a few extra pounds. But that is not the point here. I’m writing this as someone looking to raise awareness about how your weight and health should NOT be a trend that go in and out of style. What will be the long-term consequences on one’s health by taking the shortcut to lose weight? And what example are you giving to the young generation as well as yourself by cheating the process to acquire the desirable results?
If you haven’t gotten the preferred results despite putting in the effort and dedication, don’t worry. You should still be incredibly proud of yourself for not giving up and taking the easy route. If you are unhappy with your body and want to seek alternative options, go ahead. But before you do, take the time to carefully examine the reason behind you want to embark on this direction. Is it something you have been seriously looking in to? Or is it to improve your mental and physical health.?
Ultimately, stop if the sorely reason is to gain others’ acceptance and to be part of a trend. The hard truth is, if you are unhappy with yourself, no matter what you do to alter your appearance the unhappiness will continue, regardless.
It is not about being skinny or losing weight. Although it should be all about being content with the person that you are. The results of your hard work will arrive at your doorsteps sooner than later. When they do, they will be that much more sweeter. Why would that be? Because you didn’t take the easier way out. Instead, you put in the hard work to achieve the desirable outcome through your own merits. And for that you, should be immensely proud of yourself.
