Bad Bunny Keeps Latino Culture Alive at the Super Bowl

Why Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Performance Matters for Latino Culture?

Week 13: Oct. 4 2025 to Oct. 10 2025

GUESS WHAT?! BAD BUNNY IS DOING THE HALFTIME SHOW AT THE SUPER BOWL ON FEBRUARY 8TH, 2026. I COULDN’T  BE MORE EXCITED!

Regardless of your stance on Bad Bunny and his music, one thing is for certain; he is doing what no other artist has done recently. He is standing up for his heritage and the Latin culture as a whole. That’s a huge accomplishment! More often than not, many artists turn their heads the other way the instant they need to speak upon a topic that is outside of their comfort zone. I wish many more artists, especially Dominican artists, possess the courage to speak up and defend  their culture.

If artists don’t take advantage of their power and influence to speak up against injustices and how the resources in third-world countries are being mismanaged. Then who is going to? Artists are given a voice. With it comes the responsibility to use their platform to raise awareness about a plethora of concerning issues impacting our world.

There is one song in particular that translates perfectly what is happening, called “Lo Que Le Paso a Hawaii”. In that song, the listener can witness the cruel reality of how natural resources are being privatized and taken away. “Me quieren quitar el río, y también la playa… quieren a el barrio mío.” Those words are so simple yet powerful. The lyric captures the essence of how they seek to deprive us of the things that have been part of our lives for generations.

I’m not implying that our countries shouldn’t develop and progress. Oh no! What I want to emphasize is that, for a country to be properly developed, it should grow in a way that is beneficial to all its citizens and not just a select few. And it must do so without depriving the citizens from the country’s natural resources.

For instance, why does a Spanish-speaking country need every advertisement to be in English? What is the point, especially when its citizens speak Spanish? That doesn’t make sense! And why play English music in stores when the majority of citizens can’t understand it?

Whether you like Bad Bunny or not, one thing is undoubtable,  he is shining a spotlight on the importance of keeping the  Latino culture alive. It comes with great nostalgia to know that developments and human greed are slowly erasing the rich history and traditions that preserve our Latin heritage from being gone forever. If we don’t fight to protect our heritage, then who will? The sad truth is once it disappear it will disappear for ever.
